Highest vertical drop in North America and unrivaled skiing conditions
Mountain quality is typically judged on vertical drop and annual snowfall. Revelstoke surpassed Whistler last year and now offers the longest lift-serviced vertical descent in North America. Revelstoke receives an average of 40-60 feet of champagne powder annually and offers significantly more skiable acres than many of North America's top resorts, including Aspen, Jackson Hole, Deer Valley and Telluride.
The snowfall received in Revelstoke is more than any other North American ski resort, by comparison, Whistler Blackcomb receives roughly 30 feet per year, while typical US ski resorts receive an average of 20 to 40 feet.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort has formed 85 new partnerships with tour operators in 15 countries worldwide. We continue to receive new inquiries from companies every week that are looking to add the ski industry's hottest destination to their roster of vacation offerings for their clients.
Strong existing operations
Selkirk Tangiers has been operating for 30 years and has grown to become a recognized leader in the North American heli-skiing market. Selkirk Tangiers is the third largest operator in Canada and had 5,000 skier days during the 2007/2008 season. Revelstoke has a strong ski and outdoor adventure background with the longest running ski club in Canada. Revelstoke is known for the origin of ski jumping in Canada and is home to the Canadian Avalanche Center.
All-season resort destination
The area surrounding Revelstoke has endless, all-season outdoor recreation opportunities, including boating, golfing, mountain biking, heli-skiing, snowmobiling, whitewater rafting, fishing and horseback riding. Additionally, cultural destinations, including museums and historical attractions, as well as the 175 meter Revelstoke Dam, the second largest in Canada, attract visitors throughout the year. Revelstoke's location on the Trans Canada highway entices tourists to visit the area in the summer months and recent studies estimate that over 3.5 million visitors pass through the community each summer.
Nic Faldo signature designed golf course
RMR has contracted with Nic Faldo Design Overseas Limited to design a signature 18-hole golf course. This course will be located near the base of the Mountain and will serve as the centerpiece of RMR's off-season Resort offerings.
Significant barriers to entry
There are few locations in North America that are suitable for the development of a large ski resort. In the unlikely event that a developer is able to identify and acquire an attractive suite for a ski area, an extensive regulatory process makes it very difficult to get the necessary approvals to build out the Resort. Burdensome regulation not only hinders the development of new resorts but also limits the expansion of existing ones. The owners of RMR have accumulated a significant amount of land at the base of the Mountain, negotiated options to acquire additional land as needed, and obtained all of the necessary approvals for a large scale development , RMR has the full support of the Province of British Columbia, as well as the residents of Revelstoke, and therefore presents an opportunity that is unmatched in North America. Additionally, the current approvals allow for significant flexibility within the existing development plan, enabling a developer to alter the build-out as warranted by market conditions or other factors.
Compelling demographic trends
- Baby boomers and their families will continue to drive demand for vacation homes and experiential travel
- Ski industry studies indicate that the number of skiers continues to grow globally
- RMR offers varied terrain and numerous activities that provide guests with a variety of recreation options directly from the Resort's base
Revelstoke is booming
29 new business licenses were approved between August 1, 2009 and November 1, 2009 for Revelstoke and many more are in the works. John Devitt, the Executive Director of the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce says, "new businesses are boutique style, non-franchise and most are locally owned and operated." The city of Revelstoke is growing but doing so in a way that maintains the authenticity of the historic town.
HIGH SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is being developed using the most sophisticated principles of sustainability. The goal is to minimize the environmental footprint, build green and energy-efficient buildings, and reduce emissions by utilizing green fuels and transportation.
British Columbia tourism landscape
While the quality of RMR alone makes Revelstoke an appealing investment opportunity, the macro economic trends affecting tourism, combined with Canada's regional tourism trends, further enhance the Resort's value. Tourism continues to garner an ever greater share of the world's gross expenditures. This trend, driven in part by the impending retirement of baby boomers, is expected to continue to support leisure and tourism investments. Even more importantly, the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and the limited lodging availability at Whistler should be a catalyst for growth in tourism in British Columbia. This growth should benefit resort operations throughout the province.
The long-term economic outlook for leisure and tourism is overwhelmingly positive. A recent report by the World Travel and Tourism Council forecasts an average compound annual growth rate of tourism revenues of 6.5% between 2008 and 2018. The number foretasted is C$14.8 billion for global tourism by 2018.
Revelstoke's unique ability to offer lift serviced vertical, cat, and heli-skiing will draw skiers from all over the world. In addition to international visitors, Revelstoke will draw skiers from eastern B.C., western Alberta and Calgary. These regions boast large and active skier populations that commonly make day and overnight trips to resorts located in the northern Rocky Mountains, eastern B.C., and northern Montana. The Banff-Lake Louise resorts of Alberta, located in Banff National Park, are constrained in terms of development opportunities and amenities due to Parks Canada development and operational policies and guidelines. The development restrictions placed on these important resorts, coupled with general population growth of the Calgary area and further increases in destination visitors, will cause both local residents and destination visitors to seek other opportunities for the coming decade.
Overall, British Columbia continues to be a leading force in skiing visitation growth across Canada, growing faster than any region in North America during the last decade.
Olympics
One undeniable stimulus to regional travel and tourism industries is the Olympics. Cities which host the Olympics typically gain both short-term economic benefits and long-term growth in their tourism and travel sectors due to increased visibility provided by such a large, publicized event. Vancouver will play host to the 2010 Winter Olympics, presenting a significant opportunity for B.C. to boost its economic growth, especially in the tourism sector.
Salt Lake City, provides a directly applicable case study. Before the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Utah ski industry, despite having some of the best ski conditions in the U.S., was struggling to grow. Its market share had dropped from 6.0% in 1999 to 5.5% in 2002, and Utah's ski resorts were having trouble generating increases in skier days. The 2002 Winter Olympics reversed this trend. Over the course of the 2002 Olympics 2.1 billion viewers in 160 Countries amassed 13.1 billion viewer hours of Olympic coverage, bringing the region exposure no amount of marketing or advertising could ever deliver. Additionally, 220,000 people visited Salt Lake City during the games, and 2.2 million airline passengers viewed the Bud Greenspan 27-minute file "Discover Utah."
The tremendous publicity, media coverage, capital inflows and infrastructure investment of the 2002 Olympic Games stimulated, the ski industry in Utah and it has been thriving ever since. The compound annual growth rate of skier days was just 1.5% during the five-year period prior to the 2002 Games, but it has been over 8% since 2002.
Current commitments by the Province for infrastructure and other investment related to the 2010 Games suggest the Province is serious about capitalizing on the Games' incredible potential. The Province of BC announced the Spirit of 2010 Tourism Strategy, as well as the Resort Strategy, which will help resorts leverage the publicity created by the Games. The goal of these strategies is to use the Games to double tourism revenues within ten years, requiring an annual revenue growth rate exceeding 7%. Highlights of the plan include a C$1.3 billion commitment to imporve infrastructure, a C$1 billion partnership with CN Rail to revitalize the B.C. rail system, and a C$565 million expansion of the Vancouver Convention Center.
